Australian stars Nathan Hauritz, Doug Bollinger and Shaun Marsh returned to the school playground on 11th February 2010, encouraging teachers in New South Wales to become MILO in2CRICKET School Ambassadors.

The cricketers presented a MILO in2CRICKET School Ambassador pack to teacher Callum Thomson while visiting Neutral Bay Primary School.

The launch of the MILO in2CRICKET School Ambassador program comes in this, the 17th year of MILO’s continued support of junior cricket development.

Free to join, the MILO in2CRICKET School Ambassador program offers every Australian primary and secondary school the chance to nominate a school ambassador who will receive a pack containing Cricket Australia apparel, access to reward and recognition programs and professional development opportunities along with Australian cricket’s new Health and Physical Education curriculum resource S’Cool Cricket.

In return, School Ambassadors are asked to assist in promoting opportunities for students to be involved in cricket – either in the classroom or in the playground.

Recalling his time at school, Paceman Bollinger acknowledged the significant influence teachers had made in encouraging him to become involved in sports and be active.

“As a kid, teachers played a large part in encouraging me to be healthy, fit and to play cricket so the MILO in2CRICKET school ambassador program is a great way to reward teachers who are doing this in school’s today,” Bollinger said.

With over 217,000 Australian students playing traditional and modified cricket games in school and over 42,000 participating in MILO in2CRICKET club programs in 2008-09, Hauritz predicts that will interest in cricket will continue to increase.

“The interest from kids in cricket at the moment has never been higher and MILO in2CRICKET registrations at club-level across the country have never been higher, then you have Twenty20 cricket which is adding another dimension,” Hauritz said.

“And of course the 3 mobile Ashes Series is coming up later in 2010, so I’m sure cricket will be dominating the playgrounds for boys and girls across Australia this year.”

Neutral Bay Primary School PE teacher Callum Thomson was excited to receive his school ambassador pack from Hauritz, Marsh and Bollinger as well as commencing his role a MILO in2CRICKET school ambassador:

“I coordinate the cricket programs at the school so it was natural for me to become the School Ambassador for the school. It was as easy as registering at www.in2CRICKET.com.au. But I certainly didn’t expect to have three of Australia’s current cricketing champions present my pack. I’ll wear the ambassador shirt proudly tomorrow and am looking forward to using the new cricket resource in PE classes.”

MILO together with Cricket Australia has introduced over 5 million kids to cricket and encouraged them to lead an active healthy lifestyle.
