2008/09 was a breakthrough season for Khawaja, scoring 525 First Class runs at 47.72. This included consecutive centuries against Queensland (112) and Western Australia (172no), where he displayed his full array of strokes.
Khawaja also represented the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues for the first time at one-day level, playing two matches with a highest score of 45 against Victoria at the SCG.
Khawaja was rewarded for his form with an invitation to attend the Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence in Brisbane and he also celebrated completing his studies to become a qualified pilot.
He is a product of Westfields Sports High School, which boasts NSW and Australian Vice-Captain Michael Clarke as a former student.
