After a year in which he found some of the best form of his career, Phil could be disappointed that at the age of 32, he seems to have dropped off the radar of the Australian selectors. With a Test average that currently sits at 47.47, Phil was hoping that season 2010-11 might re-invigorate interest in his ability to provide a proven Test match performer, but after a slow start to the season he watched as Phillip Hughes replaced Simon Katich in the Test line-up.
He responded to this in the only way he knows with a hundred in both innings of the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield match against Victoria at the MCG, and in doing so became the first person to perform the feat since Greg Mail in 2003-04 and the 16th overall player for NSW. Jaques finished the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield season with 674 runs, and added another 291 in the Ryobi Cup, making him the highest run-scorer for the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues in the competition.
He regained his place in the KFC Big Bash side towards the end of the season, and was part of the side that lost to South Australia in the final at Adelaide Oval. With the off-season to be spent in Sydney after numerous trips to England, Phil will be hoping to continue his push for an international spot in 2011-12.
